World is Open Award
It is in recognition of the developments in this area that Skoch Consultancy has conceptualized these awards. Skoch has till date studied nearly 200 projects as primary research and over 500 as secondary research of ICT projects in India. Skoch is a technology neutral platform that focuses on benefits accruing from use of technology. During the inaugural The World is Open Awards, as many as 163 nominations were received from companies, government departments and individuals. Four per cent came from the academia, while 47 per cent came from the corporate world, 39 per cent from the government and 10 per cent from Banking and Financial Services. The projects are adjudged on several parameters including effectiveness in delivering project objectives, innovation, open standards, relevance, scalability and flexibility. All projects based on Open Source technologies as well as projects incorporating Open Source components are eligible for nomination. These projects may be implemented by state governments, central government, private companies, institutions or civil society. The projects should be in the areas of governance, financial sector, telecom and education. As a part of the process, an Awards Committee is constituted, which comprises of senior professionals from academia, government, industry and other stakeholders in the ICT-supported development of the country. Initial screening of the project is carried out on the basis of the information sought in the prescribed format. Additional information, if required, would be sought and may be supplemented with Skoch’s own research or the knowledge base of the Awards Committee. The Awards Committee then deliberates and decides on the awardees. The committee may also nominate projects that they feel should be in the consideration set.
